  • Ancient city of Hierapolis
  • Cleopatra's Pool

Full description

Pamukkale is famous worldwide for its snow-white travertines, natural limestone terraces filled with turquoise water, and for the ruins of ancient Hierapolis with its theatre and Cleopatra's Pool, where columns from a sunken temple still lie beneath the surface. Early in the morning, dozens of hot air balloons take off here. Watching them rise, or floating above the valley yourself in a wicker basket, is an experience of its own, and it's the reason many people come to Pamukkale at sunrise.

The balloon flight is shared with a group of 18 or 22 people and lasts about an hour. The pilot steers over the ruins of the ancient city and the Pamukkale terraces, then climbs to up to 1100 metres, where you can see the whole National Park spread out below. After landing, there's a short ceremony with a souvenir flight certificate and a glass of non-alcoholic champagne.

After the flight, the group heads to Pamukkale's South Gate, where the guides show you around the site and introduce the main sights. Then you're free to explore on your own: swim in the warm water of the ancient pool, wander through the ruins of Hierapolis, and stroll past the white travertines and the theatre. You'll have about 2.5-3 hours for sightseeing at your own pace.

Tour program

  1. Hotel pickup
Departure from hotels in Marmaris and İçmeler is at around 01:00 at night. Our minibus will pick you up from your hotel at the time stated in your tour voucher. An English-speaking staff member will accompany you on the way. There is no guided commentary during the drive to Pamukkale. On the way, we will stop at a petrol station, where you can use the toilets and order hot drinks or a snack.
  2. Hot air balloon flight
On arrival in Pamukkale, you will receive a safety briefing, meet your pilot and be taken to the balloon launch site. The flight takes place at sunrise, at around 06:00-07:00, and lasts about an hour. The pilot flies over Hierapolis and the white terraces, climbing to an altitude of up to 1100 metres. Meanwhile, you can enjoy beautiful views of Pamukkale, the ancient city and the other balloons floating nearby.
  3. Post-landing ceremony
After landing, we will hold a short ceremony where you will receive souvenir flight certificates and a glass of non-alcoholic champagne.
  4. Visit to Pamukkale
The group arrives at the South Gate, and the guide shows you around the site and points out the main sights. You then have about three hours to explore on your own: swim in the ancient pool, walk through the ruins of Hierapolis, and see the theatre and the white travertines.
  5. Lunch
After leaving Pamukkale, we will stop for lunch at a local café. Lunch is a buffet with cold starters and a couple of hot dishes. Drinks at lunch are paid separately.
  6. Souvenir shop
On the way back, at the guide's discretion, you will stop either at a souvenir shop, where you can buy various onyx and sultanite crafts, or at a wine cellar, where you can taste and buy local fruit wines.
  7. Return to the hotel
The drive back to Marmaris takes about 4 hours. There will be one stop at a petrol station on the way, and you will be back at your hotels in Marmaris and İçmeler by 17:00.
