Full description

Many people think of Cappadocia only as a place for hot air balloon flights, but there's much more to it. The region is packed with unusual natural landscapes, early Christian monuments and traces of the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman empires.

Saratlı Underground City. Cappadocia has several underground cities where locals sheltered for centuries and early Christians hid from raids. These multi-level mazes were built to house hundreds of people. At Saratlı, 3 of the 7 levels are open to visitors, and you'll see living quarters, kitchens, storerooms and churches.

Avanos. This town is the heart of Cappadocian pottery, with more than a hundred workshops. You'll visit one of them, try your hand at the potter's wheel and have the chance to pick up some souvenirs.

Uçhisar Castle and the valleys. Near Göreme, this rock fortress offers sweeping views over the valleys of Cappadocia from its summit. Each valley has its own name and legend, and the tuff rocks come in all shapes and colors, from "mushrooms" to stone "chimneys". It's one of the best photo spots in the region.

Tour program

  1. Hotel pickup
Our transport will pick you up from your hotel in Antalya. The exact departure time will be shown in your e-voucher after booking. Cappadocia is about 500 km from Antalya, and the road crosses the Taurus Mountains, taking around 6.5 hours not counting stops.
  2. Breakfast in the Taurus Mountains
A breakfast stop at a roadside café with mountain views. You can order a traditional Turkish breakfast and hot drinks here, or enjoy the packed breakfast box collected from your hotel the evening before. After breakfast, the guide will run through the tour programme.
  3. Caravanserai
A visit to an old Silk Road inn where trade caravans once stopped to rest.
  4. Mount Hasan
A photo stop overlooking this extinct volcano, which rises to 3,268 m. Its eruptions millions of years ago created the landscapes of Cappadocia.
  5. Saratlı Underground City
Descend into a multi-level underground city where people sheltered from raids for centuries. You will walk through living quarters, kitchens, storerooms and churches while the guide explains what life was like here.

Everyone else can head to a viewpoint or go on a jeep safari to photograph hundreds of balloons rising over the valleys (extra charge). The flight and sunrise programmes must be booked with the guide in advance.
