About the excursion

An island in turquoise water that Turks call their own Maldives: a full day on a yacht with swimming stops at unspoilt bays and lunch on board.

Highlights

  • Swimming in several bays
  • The Love Cave
  • Lunch on board
  • A chance to spot turtles

Full description

Picture a rocky island of volcanic origin with no bridge or road leading to it, reachable only by sea. The water around it is so clear that you can see the seabed at depths of up to twenty metres, and orange cliffs drop straight into the sea.

The trip begins with a transfer from your hotel to the port of Adrasan. You'll travel around 120 kilometres by coach along a scenic road linking the coast's main resorts. Once you reach the village, you'll board a two-deck boat, which takes you on the rest of the journey to the island.

The boat sails past towering cliffs and caves, stopping for swims at several bays of Suluada Island, including Paradise Bay and Maldives Bay. At each stop you can swim in open water, sunbathe on deck and take photos against the backdrop of the cliffs.

One of the bays is called Akseki, and its rocky shore hides a cave known as the Love Cave. The water inside is noticeably colder than the rest of the sea, and you can explore it while swimming. Loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta) live in the waters around the island, and you may spot them along the way.

Around midday, lunch is served on board, usually chicken with a side dish and salad. After lunch the cruise continues with one or more swimming stops, and then the yacht returns to the port of Adrasan, from where you are driven back to your hotel.

The island itself has two small beaches: a sandy one about 150 metres long on the south side, and a triangular one of sand and fine pebbles in the northwest, set among boulders. The island is uninhabited, with no electricity or fresh water, and the cruise itself runs at a relaxed pace, with several swims and time to unwind on deck.
